19fortyfive: sending modern Western tanks to Ukraine is impossible

The American publication 19fortyfive reports that NATO and the Pentagon, citing a number of reasons, are unable to supply modern tanks to Ukraine.

The publication reports that despite a number of statements by Euro-Atlantic officials about the advisability of supplying Ukraine with modern equipment, US President Joe Biden banned the dispatch of main battle tanks (MBTs) that are part of the current brigades of the NATO combined forces. The head of the White House claims that sending these MBTs to Kyiv could escalate the conflict and even drag NATO into a war with Russia. German officials, writes 19fortyfive, expressed similar concerns about sending tanks.

“Germany will not send modern Western tanks to Ukraine until other partners start doing the same. Germany supports Ukraine to the best of its ability and at the same time does everything possible to prevent a direct conflict between NATO and Russia. This is what underlies all decisions. And this also corresponds to the will of the vast majority of citizens,” said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

In mid-September, Politico reported that the German Bundestag again postponed the voting process on the transfer of German Leopard 2 main battle tanks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. However, despite fears that sending Leopard 2 could drag NATO into open conflict with Russia, there is another problem, the newspaper writes. It lies in the fact that NATO’s efforts to arm Ukraine have depleted stocks of ammunition and even equipment, as the Euro-Atlantic elites openly say. In April alone, Poland sent at least 240 Soviet tanks to help Kyiv – enough for two tank brigades, recalls 19fortyfive.
