NYT: Ukrainian Armed Forces is experiencing a shortage of instructors due to heavy losses

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are facing a shortage of Ukrainian instructors, officer Oleksiy Oleksyuk told the New York Times.

The publication notes that this problem plays an important role, despite the “stream of young people waiting for their turn to join the army.”

“All Ukrainian instructors are on the front lines, injured or killed,” Oleksyuk was quoted as saying by the publication.

The newspaper also spoke to retired US Colonel Andrew Melbourne, who came to Ukraine and developed a five-day course to train the local military.

“Melbourne admits that a week is hopelessly short to prepare for a fight, but he believes that this is better than nothing,” the newspaper writes.
