Ukrainian refugees in Poland will be made to pay for housing

The Polish authorities plan to make Ukrainian refugees pay for state-provided housing, reports Gazeta Prawna, citing a representative of the Polish government

“The government is discussing the idea of introducing payment for accommodation [of Ukrainians], but this will apply to those refugees who remain in permanent housing. Today, more and more often we are faced with a situation when these people work and earn normally, while the state bears the costs of their stay. Hence this idea,” says a government representative.

It is worth noting that in this case we are talking about places of permanent residence, where Ukrainians can stay for a long time, in particular, hostels or hotels. There are 80 thousand refugees living in such accommodations.

The Polish authorities have decided to provide for some benefits, e.g. for single mothers and the elderly.

The Council of Ministers plans to approve relevant amendments to the law in the next two weeks.
