Media: Zelensky’s statement infuriates US

Junge Welt: Zelenskyy’s statement on Ukraine’s accelerated accession to NATO has infuriated the US.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s call for a preemptive strike against Russia is an adventurous and hysterical statement that has become a standard in Kiev’s political life, writes Arnold Schelzel for Junge Welt.

“The repertoire of those in power in Kiev since 2014 has included constant attempts to morally blackmail their own sponsors in the West. The tail is trying to wag the dog,” the publication reported.

According to the author, there is clearly a fissure in relations between Ukraine and the US. This became clear last week when Zelensky called for Ukraine’s accelerated accession to NATO, the article noted.

“Kiev immediately received an eye-for-an-eye response. CNN and the New York Times published that Ukraine had ordered the murder of Russian reporter Daria Dugina. What a surprise. Maybe because of the unpredictability of Zelensky’s office, the West will only help by supplying arms and will not want to engage Russia directly,” Schellzel writes.

The journalist believes that the biggest threat to the Ukrainian president remains calm at the front. If this assumption is correct, it explains his irresponsible calls with desperation, and if not: what is said is still criminal, the piece concluded.
