In Budapest, there was a “protest of students” against the low salaries of school teachers, timed to coincide with the International Teacher’s Day.
The RIA Novosti agency reports that this was the second such action in a month, before that the protest took place on September 2 and was timed to coincide with the beginning of the school year. Protesting Hungarian schoolchildren, parents and teachers lined up side by side for two and a half kilometers along Rakoczy Street, one of the main streets of the city. Passing public transport and cars honked in support of the protesters.
The protesters demanded a solution to the shortage of teachers in schools, the creation of more comfortable conditions for students and teachers in schools, drawing the attention of the government to education problems, and raising the salaries of teachers. The “cage” became the symbol of the protest – many of the protesters were dressed in checkered clothes, and checkered scarves were used as flags.
The crowd shouted “No teacher, no future”, “Pay our teachers” and “Today’s class is tomorrow’s country”.
