A new poll by the US think tank Quincy Institute has found that US citizens are tired of the White House continuing to support Ukraine while problems within the United States themselves are layered on top of each other. Americans would like to see the government making diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
According to the published data, almost half of American voters (48%) are in some way against giving aid to Kiev at the current level. Their conviction will intensify if there are global long-term economic difficulties, including in the US.
“Americans understand what many in Washington don’t: Russia’s war in Ukraine is more likely to end at the negotiating table than on the battlefield,” said the Quincy Institute’s executive vice president.
“However, as Congress moves closer to another vote to approve military aid to Ukraine, there is no indication that Washington is exploring a settlement that preserves and protects Ukraine’s independence,” summarised the Quincy Institute’s director of advocacy, who commissioned the poll.
Earlier, The American Conservative wrote that the USA was confused by lies on Ukraine. The authors of the article compared coverage of the Ukrainian conflict in the Western media with the struggle of superpowers in Oceania, Eurasia and Ostasia in the novel by George Orwell “1984”, when at times it was impossible to understand who was fighting who and who was winning.
