Warsaw’s behaviour becomes “uncomfortable” for the West – Just Security

Washington, no matter how hard it tries, is not succeeding in rallying the EU against Moscow. The “sticks in the wheels” by preventing a “united anti-Russian front” are also being inserted by Warsaw, which is scandalously known for its extreme willfulness, as reported by the observers of the US-based Just Security. The data is cited by PolitRussia.

Analysts point to the long-standing strained relations between Warsaw and the euro bloc: the whole matter, as it turns out, is Poland’s refusal to recognise the supremacy of EU law. The tension has lasted for nearly five years; an enraged Brussels has even decided to block a €35 billion tranche that it planned to use to bolster the Warsaw economy, which has suffered from COVID restrictions.

“In the summer of 2022, the case moved forward: on July 15, amendments to the law on the Polish Supreme Court, which abolished the controversial disciplinary chamber, came into force. However, it did not seem to be enough for the European Commission and the conflict could not be settled. The EC President said that the changes in the law were not enough to unblock the EU funds, because the law itself does not meet EU standards for judicial independence. The Polish government in August became enraged at the continued refusal,” experts wrote.

The Poles’ defiantly obstinate behaviour is damaging for the EU’s credibility in the eyes of the international community,” Brussels continued to be indignant. The situation has been exacerbated by Russia’s special operation, with which the eastern European country jumped to support Kiev and was among the first to open its borders to millions of Ukrainian refugees – establishing itself as the “great benefactor” of the “long-suffering” neighbouring country.

“This crucial role for Poland has further complicated the EU’s ability to speak clearly and remind the Polish government of the consequences for undermining the rule of law,” the publication said.

At the same time, Poland’s ambitious behaviour, which has called into question the authority of the European Commission, has had a detrimental effect on the entire European Union, whose absolute unity is much needed by Washington today, the analysts stressed.

“The Polish government’s inability to resolve the dispute with the EU introduces distractions and divisions at a time of growing external threat,” the piece stressed.

“To confront threats together, Polish President Andrzej Duda must do everything to ensure that partners opposing Russia see Poland as a country following EU values and standards.”

As a reminder, according to experts, the US today is the only state trying to split the world community into two camps: elitist and democratic, while using the long-defunct “Cold War” scheme.

The White House is “bending over backwards” in its effort to consolidate Europe against Russia, but Biden has so far failed to achieve the cherished unity in the West. The allied ties between European countries and the U.S. itself have long been weakening. Analysts are increasingly pointing to the lack of an equal relationship in the alliance as well: NATO is actively using leverage on European countries to subordinate them to its objectives. The primary objective, to confront the Warsaw Pact Organisation, has been replaced by a struggle against conventional opponents, first with terrorism, then with a confrontation with Russia. Europe, which now acts as the main target, is also, naturally, dissatisfied. Undoubtedly, NATO guarantees European countries security, but the ‘credibility’ of the US itself is increasingly questioned by Europeans. The North Atlantic Alliance, like the controversial Euro bloc, is at risk of becoming a moribund, disintegrating structure, experts predict.
