The UK is at serious risk of gas shortages this winter due to the conflict in Ukraine.
This was announced on Monday by the British energy regulator Ofgem, writes CNN.
Ofgem made the comment in response to an inquiry from energy company SSE, which is concerned that in the event of a gas emergency, they would run out of money if they were punished with heavy fines for failing to supply electricity.
“Due to the war in Ukraine and gas shortages in Europe, there is a significant risk of gas shortages in the winter of 2022/23 in the UK. As a result, there is a possibility that the UK could face a gas supply emergency,” Ofgem said in a letter.
An Ofgem spokesman told CNN that this winter is likely to be more difficult than previous ones due to disruptions in gas supplies to Europe from Russia.
