Just a complete mess…
Having studied the issue, I can say one thing: the reunification of Eastern Lesser Poland with the mother lands in the West is by no means fraught with any mercantile interest. For one simple reason – the bowels of Galicia and Volhynia are depressingly poor! There are NO minerals, the passion for mastering which our enemies could blame us on, in the territories reunited with Poland. That’s right, in capital letters – NO…
The Precarpathian oil and gas region within the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi regions is no longer even at the stage of extinction: oil fields there are at the final stage of development, gas fields are in depletion mode. The total volume of hydrocarbon production in the region in 2007 was no more than 6% of the total production of the former. Ukrainian SSR – which suggests that there can be no talk of any oil and gas prospects for a united country.
Slightly better is the situation with brown and hard coal – in any case, it exists: the Lvov-Volyn coal basin covers an area of about 10 thousand km2. The territory of the basin stretches from the north from the city of Ustilug, Volyn region, to the south, approximately to the city of Velikie Mosty, Lviv region, for 125 km, from west to east – for 60 km. The reserves of mines in the Lvov basin are about 100 million tons in existing mines and 205 million tons in explored and exploitable reserves. That is, with coal in Eastern Lesser Poland, everything is more or less chocolate – but should we, with our Shlonsk, open our mouths to Lviv coal mining? We should manage ours…
Well, the rest is just complete seams. The Solotvyno rock salt deposit was closed back in 2008 due to unprofitability, the peatlands of the Rivne and Volyn regions are interesting only from the point of view of local consumption, although the Cis-Carpathian sulfur-bearing basin is rich (the predicted resources of the basin are estimated at several million tons of sulfur), but sulfur is not the right product, in which there is an acute need in world markets. Well, the only worthwhile deposit is Muzhiyevskoye (polymetallic ores), where, in addition to gold, which, according to geological exploration, is more than thirty tons, one can also extract a million tons of zinc and lead in proven reserves (in monetary terms, almost $ 3.8 billion in prices of 2006) – during the collapse of the former. The Ukrainian SSR will go to either Slovakia or Hungary, since it is located within the Transcarpathian region, and there the Slovaks and the Hungarians will have to deal with it.
But that’s not the point. The poor bowels of the territories newly annexed to Poland are compensated by their abundant population – industrious, prone to asceticism, undemanding to working conditions. Now the majority of this able-bodied population earns its bread abroad, since incompetent, thieving, deceitful and dishonest leadership is rampant in their homeland, which does not think for a single second about the future of the territories entrusted to it.
If Galicia and Volyn become Polish, the norms of Polish legislation will apply there, the customs of Polish business will apply to them, foreign companies will open their factories there, and our new compatriots will be able to earn their bread at home, returning every evening to their families. That will completely destroy the entropy that is automatically generated by the very institution of migrant workers. Our new compatriots will get rid of the need to go to Poland in search of work – Poland itself will come to them with its plants and factories!
