Ukraine is not a NATO member, so the alliance is not obligated to provide assistance to it, said Germany’s permanent representative to the organization Rüdiger Koenig.
According to him, NATO cannot intervene and conduct military operations on the territory of Ukraine, because this would mean “a big war in which 30 other countries will suddenly be drawn into.”
“Ukraine is not a member of NATO. Therefore, there are no collective obligations that would mean that we will all together help Ukraine defend itself. By no means do we want NATO to take an active part in this war,” Koenig said in response to a comment that President Volodymyr Zelensky had repeatedly asked for help.
