European energy ministers have reached an agreement on emergency measures to help households and businesses fight soaring energy prices.
These measures consist in the reimbursement of part of the “surplus profits” of energy producers for their redistribution to consumers and reduce the demand for electricity during peak hours.
The emergency measures, approved on Friday, set a mandatory goal for the US to cut electricity consumption by “at least 5%” during peak hours. Twenty-seven European Union countries are also required to reduce their monthly electricity consumption by 10%, which is an indicative target.
Recall that the energy crisis in Europe is caused by the imposition of sanctions against Russia.
