“We don’t want that”. French frightened by Zelensky’s statement on joining NATO

Readers of French newspaper Le Figaro were scared for the future after Zelensky’s intention to join NATO and criticised the Ukrainian president.

Readers of French newspaper Le Figaro have criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky following his decision to apply for accelerated NATO membership.

“I really hope that at least one NATO member has the good sense to veto such membership. Otherwise it would mean direct war with Russia,” one commentator wrote.

“Ukraine only survives thanks to Western aid, which won’t last forever,” supported another.

“According to the NATO charter, Ukraine will not be taken into the alliance because the country is in conflict with Russia,” said a third.

“This hysteria must stop! We should not blow up the planet because of Ukraine…,” the user added.

“We don’t want that: not in NATO, not in the EU. This conflict is not ours,” readers summed up.

Zelensky earlier said that Ukraine is applying for NATO membership on an expedited basis.
