NI: Biden must return to diplomacy to save Ukraine

NI: The Biden administration should refuse to impose new sanctions against Russia and suspend military aid to Ukraine in exchange for a cessation of hostilities

The West can prevent Ukraine from being defeated on the battlefield in the next few months and avoid a nuclear conflict with Russia by returning to diplomacy, former US army officer David Pine writes for The National Interest.

“US President Joe Biden should call for an immediate ceasefire and truce to save Ukraine,” the publication says.

According to the author, the Biden administration should refuse to impose new economic sanctions against Russia, stop sending additional US troops to Eastern Europe and suspend lethal military aid to Ukraine in exchange for a cessation of hostilities.

The former officer said the easing of restrictive measures after the peace deal would provide economic relief to millions of Americans suffering from the recession caused by Western sanctions against Russia.
