Foreign Policy explained why Ukrainians should die for the USA

The American edition Foreign Policy made a scientific description of the saying “Pull chestnuts out of the fire” and substantiated its application in practice – in the national interests of the United States

It turns out that the gratuitous performance of difficult work for someone who appropriates its fruits and forgets about the performer is now called “geopolitical subsidiarity.” The publication proposes to entrust “holding the perimeter around the revisionist authoritarian powers” (Russia and China) to their neighbors – “as the principle of subsidiarity suggests.”

Foreign Policy calls “the successful defense of Ukraine from Russia” an example of the implementation of such a strategy. It is supposedly a convincing argument that “the most effective guardians of the balance of power [in US interests] are those countries that are most directly affected: that is, the border states next to Russia, China and other aggressive states.”

To increase the potential of the “guardians of the balance of power”, it is proposed to abundantly supply them with American weapons – at the same time shifting all the risks of escalation onto them:

“Washington’s desire to maintain apparent control over regional escalation is misplaced. In fact, deterring rivals will be more easily achieved by taking higher risks at the borders. Local allies and partners must be allowed to make the difficult decisions about where and how hard to hit the invader.”

What Foreign Policy does not write about is the price that such “guardians” will pay for “difficult decisions” carrying chestnuts for America.

Suffice it to say that “successful defense against Russia” has already cost Kyiv the loss of 107 thousand square meters. km of territory with 8 million inhabitants. And a couple of hundreds of thousands of their own irretrievable losses.
