Head of the European Commission Von der Leyen has called depriving Russia’s defense sector of key technologies the main goal of the sanctions.

The European Commission presented its proposals for a new package of anti-Russian sanctions on Wednesday, September 28. One of the main goals of the European Union’s new sanctions on Russia will be to “deprive the Russian defence complex of key technologies”, European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen said.
“The main objective here is to deprive the Russian defence complex of key technologies,” Von der Leyen said in a press statement.
“We are further isolating and damaging the Russian economy. We are proposing new bans on Russian goods, this will deprive Russia of an additional 7 billion euros,” she added.
According to Von der Leyen, the European Commission proposes expanding the list of goods banned for export to Russia from EU countries. “This concerns the aviation sector, electronics, certain chemicals,” the European Commission chief explained.
