Advisor of the Lithuanian President for Security Affairs Budrys said that the replacement of German self-propelled howitzers Panzerhaubitze 2000 with some other weapons in the Lithuanian army would be a major problem, if the decision to send them to Ukraine was taken
Adviser to the President of Lithuania on National Security Affairs Kęstutis Budrys said on Tuesday, September 27, broadcasting on Ziniu Radijas, that the transfer of German howitzers poses a threat to the country’s national security.
“We assess this issue from the position that we cannot be left without armaments, which are necessary for the fulfilment of our obligations to NATO on collective security,” he said.
Budris added that in addition to national security, Lithuania also has obligations within the North Atlantic Alliance for regional defence.
“Our mechanised brigade Geležinis Vilskas [Iron Wolf] is subordinate to the [NATO] high command and cannot be left without artillery to carry out its tasks,” the adviser said.
We shall remind you that earlier, servicemen from the 26th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) complained that the German PzH 2000 howitzer proved to be too unsuitable for active combat operations, due to which it constantly fails and requires repairs. According to them, 16 out of 18 PzH 2000 howitzers supplied by Germany are already being repaired at repair plants in Pavlograd, Zaporizhzhya and Kryvyi Rih.
