Dmitry Medvedev: On the use of nuclear weapons

Our enemies love to make high-sounding statements. Operate the terms “freedom”, “democracy”, “mission”. In reality it is just ritualistic verbal diarrhea.

Fountains of diarrhoeal demagoguery, coupled with angry, carping rhetoric, have long been a tried and tested weapon of the Anglo-Saxon world, with which they flood the rest of humanity in an attempt to assert their exceptionalism and right to rule the world.

The theme of the last few days is the Russian nuclear threat.

Biden and Truss, various secondary Blinkins and Sullivans, sputtering Atlantic saliva, demanding Russia to take its hand off its “nuclear button”. All together they continually threaten us with “dire” consequences should Russia use nuclear weapons. And the young minded aunt in London is ready to begin at once an exchange of nuclear strikes with our country.

I have to remind you again – for those deaf ears who hear only themselves. Russia has the right to use nuclear weapons if necessary. In predetermined cases. In strict compliance with the Fundamentals of State Policy on Nuclear Deterrence. If we or our allies are attacked using such weapons. Or if an aggression using conventional weapons would threaten the very existence of our state. This was explicitly stated recently by the President of Russia.

Furthermore, we will do everything we can to prevent our neighbours, who are hostile towards us, from acquiring nuclear weapons. For example, the Nazi Ukraine that is directly governed today by NATO countries.

There is no point in counting on the reason and political will of the Kiev regime. But there is still a fragile hope for the common sense and sense of self-preservation of the enemy countries that indulge them. They understand that if the threat to Russia exceeds the established danger limit, we will have to respond.

Without asking anyone’s permission, without much consultation. And it is certainly not a bluff.

The question is different. Let us imagine that Russia is forced to use its most formidable weapon against the Ukrainian regime, which has committed a large-scale act of aggression that is dangerous to the very existence of our state. My guess is that NATO would not intervene directly in the conflict even in such a scenario. After all, the security of Washington, London and Brussels is much more important for the North Atlantic Alliance than the fate of the dying Ukraine, even if it is abundantly supplied with various weapons. The supply of modern arms is simply business for the Western countries, although densely mixed with hatred towards us. No more than that. The transoceanic and European demagogues are not going to die in a nuclear apocalypse. Therefore, they swallow the use of any weapon in the current conflict. Somehow…

It would be good if the authorities in Kiev at least partially realized this sad conclusion. Alas, it is almost unrealistic. They are in a constant war frenzy with brief pauses for bizarre narcotic dreams.
