The era of “nuclear blackmail” must end, because the idea that any country can win a nuclear war is crazy.

“Now, decades after the fall of the Berlin Wall, we again hear the rattling of nuclear sabers. Let me be clear. The era of nuclear blackmail must end. The idea that any country can fight and win a nuclear war is crazy. Any use of nuclear weapons will provoke a humanitarian Armageddon. We need to take a step back,” Guterres said at a meeting dedicated to the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
The UN Secretary General also called on all countries to use every opportunity for dialogue, diplomacy and negotiations to reduce tensions and eliminate the nuclear threat, and stated the need for a new vision of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
“I pledge to work closely with all Member States to forge a new consensus on how we can collectively defuse these threats and achieve our common goal of peace…There can be no peace without the elimination of nuclear weapons. There can be no trust. And there can be no sustainable future,” added the UN Secretary General.
