Russia imposes punishment of up to 15 years in prison for desertion during mobilization or wartime
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a package of amendments to the Criminal Code concerning military service.
Thus, a new article “Looting” is being introduced into the Criminal Code. This crime will be punishable by imprisonment for a term of six to 15 years.
For voluntary surrender the penalty will be from three to ten years, and for desertion or failure to perform military service as enlisted – up to ten years.
In addition, the responsibility for disobeying a military order, resisting a military superior, deserting without permission, evading service, violation of service rules, and loss of military property has been toughened.
Some amendments concern the performance of contracts under the state order – for repeated violation of the terms of the contract one can face from four to eight years in prison, and if the task is not completed or the damage is not less than five million roubles – from five to ten years.
