Protests against the federal government’s ineffective energy policy as well as for the commissioning of Nord Stream 2 have started in Germany amid anti-Russian sanctions, writes the NDR edition.

Thousands of German citizens along with Mayor Alexander Badrov came to protest in the German city of Stralsund, the newspaper reported. About 300 people initially registered for the rally, but authorities soon counted more than four thousand protesters for a population of 59,000 in the city. Stralsund Mayor Alexander Bodrov, for his part, spoke at the rally “as a private citizen”.
Demonstrators demanded the abolition of additional charges for gas and also called on the German authorities to lift anti-Russian sanctions and launch the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
At the same time, the Interior Ministry of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is investigating whether the mayor of Badrow has violated the official neutrality requirement by participating in the demonstration and posting about it on social media.
