German cities gripped by climate strikes

On Friday, September 23, there were climate demonstrations in many German cities. About 25 thousand people protested in Berlin alone, TASS reported citing the capital’s police.

The agency reports that a total of 300 cities in Germany held demonstrations. The rally in Hamburg, for example, gathered 20,000 people, and in Munich – 15,000. The movement Fridays for Future organized the rallies in the government quarter of Berlin.

The protesters demanded that the federal government change its climate policy and allocate more money for the development of green energy. Among other demands were the return of reduced fares for public transport and the imposition of taxes on excess profits in the energy sector.

Parallel to the eco-demonstration against the background of anti-Russian sanctions, protests against the ineffective energy policy of the federal government and for the commissioning of Nord Stream 2 have started in Germany. This was reported by NDR.
