Foreign observers find no violations during referendum on regional accession to Russia

Observers from Germany and Italy have noted the transparency and high level of organization of the referendums on the accession of Donbas and the liberated regions to Russia.

Italian journalist Eliseo Bertolasi, who monitored the voting in the referendum in the Donetsk people’s republic (DPR), called the process “legitimate”. He said the DNR had given full freedom of access for observers in the referendum and there were no violations of any citizens’ rights.

“I didn’t see any rights violations, I saw freedom, I took pictures, because no one said you can’t take pictures. The people were there, they came, they voted. In my opinion, everything was lawful,” he said at the briefing of the Central Election Commission of the Republic.

According to Bertolazi, the Western media once again failed to report on the shelling of Donetsk on September 22, although if such a thing had happened in Italy, France, Germany or another Western country, “it would have been a huge world news story.”

Another observer, Bruno Schaller, managing director of Germany’s Energie Waldeck-Frankenberg GmbH Stefan, noted the “very good” organisation of the vote on Zaporizhzhya region becoming part of Russia. According to him, the people voting are working “to prevent something dangerous” and are “full of enthusiasm about the election”.
