Finland and Sweden will become official NATO members by the end of this year, US Ambassador to Finland Douglas Hickey said.
US Ambassador to Helsinki Douglas Hickey said that Finland and Sweden could be accepted into NATO before the end of this year. Only three countries remain to ratify the expansion of the alliance – Slovakia, Hungary and Turkey, Politico reports.
According to the newspaper, Hungary and Turkey are expected to wait until 2023 to make a final decision. Hickey, after negotiations with his Hungarian colleague in Helsinki, came to the conclusion that Hungary would take a “positive” decision. At the same time, he warned that the situation could change, Politico notes.
