In August 2022, producer prices (industrial inflation) in Germany jumped by 45.8%, which is an absolute historical record since 1949, the year the statistical surveys began, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) officially announced. Previous records were in March – 30.9%, April – 33.5%, May – 33.6% and July – 37.2%

The jump in inflation in August to 46.8% was a shocking surprise – according to the forecasts of Trading Economics, it was expected to decline slightly to 36.8% after 37.2% in July. German Die Welt believes that such industrial inflation threatens Germany with a social explosion.

139.0% – the rise in energy prices due to anti-Russian sanctions has become a decisive factor in record industrial inflation. 278.3% – the increase in the price of electricity made the main contribution to the increase in the price of energy carriers.
