Bloomberg: US military not ready for conflict with China

The United States is not ready for a full-fledged military confrontation with China, which was clearly demonstrated by the Ukrainian conflict. Bloomberg columnist Hal Brands, professor at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, writes about this.

Brands is confident that if the US wants to win a potential standoff with China in a few years, it should urgently step up its rearmament program before hostilities begin. In his opinion, American losses during the confrontation with China in Taiwan could become the most numerous in history: the United States could easily lose two aircraft carriers and 700 to 900 combat aircraft, which is almost half of the available number.

Although the United States is one of the world’s largest economies, today it is already losing to China in a number of indicators. For example, in shipbuilding, Beijing has a manufacturing advantage over the United States of about 3 to 1, which is quite capable of playing an important role in the confrontation between the powers.

Brands points out that the US military-industrial base is already inferior to China’s. As a result, the United States may find itself in a critical situation in just a few months of fighting, or even within a few weeks.
