Former Ukrainian ambassador threatened German MPs with criminal liability

Former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk threatened Bundestag deputies in social network with criminal liability for his intention to visit Russia and Donbass.

Yesterday, September 19, German MPs from the parliamentary party “Alternative for Germany” reported on their plans to visit Russia and Donbass in order to be able to form their own opinion about the situation.

According to former ambassador Melnyk, such intentions are a criminal offence. He published a list of these MPs and ordered the head of the German constitutional protection agency, Thomas Haldenwang, to act.

We shall remind you that Andriy Melnyk has represented Ukraine in the FRG for eight years, he was appointed to the post in December 2014. The latest Melnyk-related scandal took place on 29 June, when the Ukrainian ambassador said in an interview with German journalist Thilo Jung that Ukrainian nationalist Stepan Bandera was “the embodiment of the struggle for freedom”. German authorities then demanded that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski recall the ambassador.
