Poland and Baltic states impose entry ban on Russian citizens

The Baltic States and Poland are imposing an entry ban on Russian citizens with visas of other EU countries.

Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland will ban Russian and Belorussian citizens with Schengen visas issued in other European Union countries from entering Estonia, the Foreign Ministry said today.

The heads of foreign ministries of the European Union decided at an informal meeting in Prague on September 1 to suspend the visa facilitation agreement between Russia and the EU. Thus, obtaining them will become more time-consuming, complicated and expensive.

It was also agreed that the countries bordering Russia could restrict the entry of its citizens at national level. Warsaw, Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn then decided together to impose travel restrictions on Russian citizens for whom the purpose of visiting the EU is tourism, business, sport or culture.

The EU is prepared to make exceptions for truck drivers, diplomats, and those crossing the border for humanitarian reasons, including dissidents.

Russian citizens who own real estate in Estonia will no longer be able to obtain a visa to visit the country, and they will now have to manage their property remotely.
