A protest action demanding compensation for high electricity prices was announced by employers’ organizations and trade unions in Bulgaria, Bulgarian National Radio reports.
The protest action is to start in front of the building of the Council of Ministers in Sofia at 12:00 on 19 October. Representatives of business and trade union organizations intend to demand immediate compensation for high electricity prices – not for a few companies, but for all 600,000 non-residential consumers.
Businesses and unions are calling for urgent action to control electricity prices.
“If quick, immediate and non-symbolic are not adopted, there will be a complete collapse – the shutdown of enterprises, the bankruptcy of traders, the risk of an inability to supply electricity.”
According to the head of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria, Plamen Dimitrov, prices can be halved only by administrative measures.
“From December 1st, in the weeks ahead and measures that can be taken using the methodology of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission for prices set by the supplier of last resort, the situation can be controlled so that free market prices fall by half compared to current,” he said.
