In Europe it’s December, the temperature drops. The French grid operator, like others on the continent, is running out of power to keep the light going. The operator is forced to take the drastic step of turning off the electricity in some places to avoid a complete collapse of the system.
It’s a dramatic scenario, but governments across Europe are preparing for it as the energy crisis engulfing the continent worsens with each passing week.
“The reality is that Europe does not have enough gas, if demand does not decrease, then enterprises will be forced to disconnect from the network. In the worst case, it will affect households as well,” Ed Birkett, head of energy and climate at London-based think tank Onward, warns, interviewed by Bloobmerg.
