The Minister of Education, Science and Sports Jurgita Shyugzhdienė stated that the content of the textbooks, given the geopolitical situation, does not correspond to the official line of the authorities.
School textbooks of the Russian language “V dobriy Morye!” have been withdrawn from the educational process in Lithuania, as their content, taking into account geopolitical situation, does not correspond to the official line of the authorities. This was announced to journalists by the Minister of Education, Science and Sports of the republic, Jurgita Šugiždienė.
“There are many places in the textbook where Russia is glorified, which against the background of the situation in Ukraine is unacceptable, so the textbook is withdrawn from circulation,” she said.
The minister expressed bewilderment at the fact that no one had reported this earlier. “This textbook has been used in schools for quite a long time, but we have not received any signals,” said Šugždienė.
The ministry ordered the textbook publishers to review the contents through the prism of the political situation within two weeks. The Ministry, for its part, will assess all Russian language textbooks. More than twenty of them have been published by different publishers.
