Due to the rejection of Russian energy resources, the cost of natural gas for consumers in Lithuania will more than double during the heating season. This was announced by Prime Minister Ingrida Shimonite.
According to Shimonite, the Lithuanian government is currently considering several different scenarios for the heating season.
“Under the main scenario, with the beginning of the heating season, the cost of gas will be 230 euros per megawatt hour,” she said, as quoted by TASS.
She stressed that next spring the price could be as high as 180 euros per megawatt hour. Currently, the price for ordinary consumers is 102 euros. The Prime Minister also informed on the level of financial resources that Lithuania needed to compensate the population. According to her, between 700 and 800 million euros are needed by the end of 2022.
