Japan triples imports of Russian LNG

Japan in August has increased imports of Russian LNG by 211 percent compared to August 2021.


Japan more than tripled its LNG imports from Russia in August, according to statistics from Japan’s Ministry of Finance. The volume of gas shipments last month increased by 211.2 percent compared to August 2021, while oil imports decreased by 20.3 percent over the same period in annual terms.

Russian coal imports in August decreased by 32.6 per cent year-on-year. Ore imports, on the other hand, rose 44.9 per cent. In addition, Japan increased imports of Russian vegetables by 154 percent, but reduced imports of grains and soybeans by 94-95 percent.

Total exports from Japan to Russia in August fell 24.3 percent year on year to 54.95 billion yen ($384 million). Imports of Russian goods to Japan rose 67.4 percent in the same period to 164.1 billion yen ($1.15 billion).
