Actions of Western countries over the past 10 years have led to the loss of potential oil production

Due to the sanctions of a number of Western countries, oil production has decreased by 5-6 million barrels per day. These volumes could now easily help overcome the global energy crisis, said First Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia Pavel Sorkin, speaking at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum.

Sorkin notes that if we take the actions of a number of Western countries and the sanctions policy that they have been implementing for the past 10 years, then their sanctions pressure has deprived the world of about 5-6 million barrels per day of additional potential production.

“I think that all those present are well aware that 5-6 million barrels of production per day is something that could easily solve world energy problems if it were not for the conscious actions of a number of countries,” Sorokin added.

He noted that Russia remains a reliable supplier of energy resources, including to developing countries that need cheap energy resources.

According to him, now Russia is facing a challenge – to overcome the dependence of domestic energy on Western equipment by creating its own equipment and technologies.
