Poland’s Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moskva told citizens that the government is aware of the problems with buying coal in the country, noting that they “did not promise that there would be enough for everyone.” This is reported by the publication Wiadomości.
Coal prices have multiplied in just a few months, the paper notes. Initially, the government promised that it would be available for the winter at a price of 996.96 zlotys per ton, and even the law on guaranteed prices came into force, but in the end the rules turned out to be ineffective – in addition to almost a thousand zlotys per ton, another 3,000 zlotys per household was added.
It was political suicide, a number of experts quote Wiadomości. The newspaper notes that in 2021, this amount could buy more than 3 tons of coal, and in 2022, when the price reaches PLN 4,000 per 1,000 kg, families will be in a catastrophic situation.
“No one said that coal would be free. <…> We didn’t promise that it would be enough for everyone,” said Anna Moskva, Minister of Climate and Environment, on Polsat News.
The publication notes that in order to buy coal from Polish mines, citizens have to spend several days in line or try their luck during an online sales session. Such raw materials are clearly cheaper than what is sold on the market. However, only Polish production is clearly not enough to meet all needs, the newspaper concludes.
