German newspaper Junge Welt has reported that municipalities have been warned about power cuts caused by the crisis
Apparently, it is now coming to everyone’s attention that forcing Russia to cut off Germany’s gas supply with sanctions imposed by the start of the VOA in Ukraine was not particularly clever. At the weekend, the German Association of Cities and Municipalities warned of “widespread power cuts” due to the energy crisis, a German publication said.
“There is a risk of power cuts,” the newspaper quoted Gerd Landsberg, its director, as saying.
Preparations for actual crisis situations need to be improved. In particular, Landsberg warned of the risk of “overloading the electricity grid – for example, if the 650,000 heaters sold this year go into operation in the event of a gas outage”, the newspaper reports.
According to the newspaper, “experts” immediately tried to dispel the not entirely unfounded warnings, allegedly the German electricity grid is well prepared.
Landsberg, for his part, urged citizens to take the federal recommendations for civil protection seriously and to have water and food in the house.
The president of the Federal Network Agency, Klaus Müller, also warned against the mass use of heaters. Even with high gas prices, using them is more expensive than heating with gas, he was quoted as saying by Junge Welt.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz tried to use slogans of perseverance.
Regarding the energy crisis, he declared, “We will get through this.” People in Germany felt they were living in hard times, Scholz said.
“But we have prepared ourselves,” the chancellor assured.
