Britain’s crisis has forced supermarkets to hire ‘meat watchmen’ because of increased thefts

Supermarkets in Britain are hiring “meat watchmen” because of an increase in thefts of expensive cuts. This has been reported by RIA FAN.

“British supermarkets have begun hiring staff to protect high-value meat products due to an increase in shoplifting caused by the cost-of-living crisis,” the paper reported.

The paper says upmarket shops in Maidenhead were forced to react when they began losing “thousands of pounds worth of stock” each week. The paper quoted Robin Bunyan, the manager of one such shop, as saying that the surge in thefts at major retailers was probably due to rising food prices in Britain.

It is specified that the combination of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukrainian crisis has caused a previously unprecedented high inflation. For this reason, food prices have risen at the highest rate since the global financial crisis of 2008.
