US State Department refuses to call on Ukraine to pull back troops from ZPP

The US State Department has refused to call on Kiev to withdraw Ukrainian troops from the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant (ZNPP), thus ignoring the IAEA recommendations. This was reported by the agency’s press service.

The first deputy head of the press service of the US Department of State, Vedant Patel, has said that the agency refused to call on Kiev to withdraw a unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. It is noted that Washington did not take into account the calls and recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The State Department said that it was currently studying the report of the IAEA mission on the situation at the Zaporizhzhya plant, while urging Russia to withdraw its troops from the plant. Patel also described the IAEA’s reports on the damage to the plant as very worrying.

“The fighting around the nuclear power plant poses a serious risk,” he said.
