On Tuesday, the emergency commission under the government of the republic decided to increase the quota for the purchase of firewood for households, as the price of gas increased.

“During the meeting of the commission, chaired by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa, changes were made to the mechanism for selling firewood to the population. In particular, the limit for one household has been increased from 3 to 5 warehouse meters,” the message on the Cabinet’s website says.
In Moldova, almost half of the population (about 660 thousand families) live in houses with stove heating. In general, the population during the cold season consumes more than 1 million cubic meters of firewood, but in the face of shortages, the firewood supplier, Moldsilva, warned that it could provide only 800,000 cubic meters of the required volume.
As Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu stated, the country intends to reduce gas consumption in winter by at least 15%.
“For this, a plan has been approved that includes lowering the central heating temperature, transferring schoolchildren and students to distance learning, and heating systems will use fuel oil, coal and firewood,” Spinu said.
