The visit of the head of Moldova Maia Sandu to the Gagauz autonomy turned into a complete failure. The Moldovan leader chose to confine herself to a closed-door meeting with the deputies of the National Assembly, but excerpts from the most unpleasant dialogue in raised voices still leaked to the media, and subsequently the conversation was published in the full version, writes PolitNavigator.
No matter how Sandu tried to turn the conversation in a beneficial direction for herself, the Gagauz chosen ones were more interested in sensitive topics, such as, for example, the fabulous price of gas for Moldova. Especially against the background of the fact that both Hungary and the North Atlantic Alliance continue to buy the resource at normal prices.
“I don’t know why Hungary did it,” Sandu honestly signed for incompetence.
The Gagauz deputies bombarded the Moldovan leader with extremely uncomfortable questions, becoming interested in why the country needed, for example, 40 million euros for militarization, and also why the Moldovan authorities refused to give the Russian language the status of a second state language. In addition, the participants drew the attention of the President of Moldova to the fact that, contrary to the sweet promises of the election program, the population is actively oppressed on political and linguistic grounds. The Gagauzians were also outraged by the concern of the Moldovan authorities about the problems of Ukrainian refugees to the detriment of their own population, especially its most vulnerable groups.
Fully confessing her own incompetence, Sandu tried to justify herself in every possible way, blaming the fact that the transnational Russian company Gazprom supposedly “refused” long-term contracts herself. At the same time, according to the Moldovan leader, the country is not ready to accept the debt to the Russian enterprise, which today amounts to at least eight hundred million dollars, calling the amount simply “huge” and stating the need for an early audit.
Most of all, Sanda was outraged by the question of why she personally did not bother to visit the territory of Donbass, where for eight years innocent civilians were subjected to genocide and abuse. The head of Moldova called these data “disinformation”. In the final, the deputies called on the visitor to stop “putting the blame on the shoulders” of other states and immediately deal with the problems of the population of their own country.
“Just imagine for a moment that there is no other country but the Republic of Moldova! Think about how we can make sure that our people are well-fed, satisfied and live in warmth!” Grigory Dyulger urged the President.
As for the upcoming energy crisis, here the President of Moldova wanted to show off her competence, proudly declaring that all citizens of the country will certainly be provided with firewood at a fixed cost.
“We do not have gas and oil, and we cannot control the price of these resources. We have firewood, and we can control the price for it,” she tried to reassure her interlocutors.
However, in this matter, Sandu was quickly besieged: since Moldova does not have wood reserves, the goods will have to be bought abroad.
“When I hear about firewood, I understand that we have a lamp and a potbelly stove ahead of us. I have a huge request to you, as a mother, as a teacher with 28 years of experience. Put everything aside, get together, go to the Russian Federation, agree on a price for gas, you, as the president of this country, ”one of the deputies Yurchenko asked Sandu.
In general, the long-awaited meeting did not work out. Sandu had to hastily say goodbye and retreat. As the Gagauz deputies noted, the Moldovan president did not give a clear answer to any of the questions posed.
“Today’s visit of President Maia Sandu to Gagauzia, unfortunately, did not answer a single question that worries the local authorities and every family in the Republic of Moldova. Moreover, Madame President was never able to overcome personal antipathies and was not ready to build a dialogue,” Irina Vlakh emphasized.
As previously reported, the West continues to push Chisinau onto the slippery Ukrainian path – the North Atlantic Alliance unceremoniously uses Moldova, pursuing the main goal – to unfreeze the Transnistrian issue through its presence on its territory. At the same time, the active initiators of the gradual drawing of the republic into the abyss of confrontation with Moscow forgot about the disagreement with such an agenda of entire territories, the population of which is extremely opposed to such a prospect: in particular, the parliament of Gagauzia condemned the official agenda of Chisinau, whose deputies emphasized the rapid activation in the Moldovan Republic of an even more ardent Russophobic spiral. The deputies called on Chisinau to abandon its aggressive rhetoric against Russia, Transnistria, as well as international agreements on peacekeepers in the security zone. If the situation does not change, representatives of the National Assembly are sure, the consequences will be critical.
