The Independent magazine writes that the UK faces the most critical decline in living standards in a century against the backdrop of sanctions against Russia.
“The cost of living crisis is out of control,” according to The Independent. The publication predicts the “terrifying” prospect of the worst decline in living standards in the last century, the threat of a prolonged recession and the approaching “unprecedented wage depression” in the UK. All this is predicted at a time when about 11 million people already live below the poverty line, the newspaper writes.
The Independent emphasizes that against this backdrop, think tanks and opposition politicians are calling on the current British government to take immediate action. However, the main contender for the post of the new prime minister, Liz Truss, has designated direct support for the British only as her third priority in the program to combat the crisis in the cost of living in the country.
