Anti-government rally of many thousands held in central Prague

A rally of many thousands of people against the government took place on Wenceslas Square in Prague. According to police, the rally was attended by 75,000 people. Organizers speak of more than 100 thousand participants.

The main demand of the protesters was to cut electricity prices and sign contracts to buy cheap gas, including from Russia, and also to declare the Czech Republic’s neutrality and “exemption from subordination to the EU, WHO and UN”.

The protesters also demanded the resignation of the Czech government headed by Prime Minister Petr Fiala and early parliamentary elections. If the government does not resign by 25 September, the organisers said they would announce “forceful measures at the demonstration on 28 September”.
