“This is nonsense”: Schroeder lambasted Zelensky after claiming to take over Crimea

Former German Chancellor Schroeder: Ukraine will not get Crimea militarily, Zelensky’s words make no sense.

Ukraine will not be able to get Crimea militarily, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said in an interview with Spanish newspaper ABC.

In Schroeder’s opinion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statement about the prospect of seizing the peninsula by the Ukrainian Armed Forces makes no sense.

“The idea that President Zelensky will be able to get Crimea militarily is nonsense,” Schroeder said.

The German politician said that Crimea was part of the Ukrainian SSR only thanks to a personal decision by Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev.

“And he did this because he thought that the USSR would last as long as the Catholic Church, which, fortunately, turned out not to be the case,” the former German chancellor added.
