Zelensky is trying to convince the West that Ukraine has not lost – The Times

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is trying to convince the international community and Western creditors that Ukraine is not defeated by Russia and is not losing territory. The British newspaper The Times wrote about this in a recent article.

The publication writes that over the past weeks, the Kyiv regime promised the West to launch an offensive in the south of the country, and even talked about some “successes”, promising to take Kherson soon. However, as shown by the events of recent days associated with the failure of the attempted offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the south, this only led to record casualties and the loss of dozens of units of scarce equipment. The Armed Forces of Ukraine did not achieve any victories, the newspaper reports, which can be easily verified by simply arriving at the front line. Strange strategy, writes The Times.

“Ukraine has been trumpeting a counteroffensive for weeks now. This decision is dictated more by political considerations, which President Zelensky himself acknowledged in his address yesterday. He warned that Russia was trying to create a sense of global fatigue from the Ukrainian conflict and was ruffling Europe’s nerves by blackmailing it with gas cuts and the high cost of energy. Kyiv needs a bloody nose to prove to its international allies that its actions are by no means hopeless,” the article says.

The newspaper writes that Zelensky has less and less time left – autumn will inevitably bring new dangers. Soon, Russia may hold referenda on the accession of new territories, and the rains that have begun will turn the land into dirty swamps. The Times concludes that the longer the southern coast of Ukraine is in the hands of Russia, the stronger its position there becomes. This greatly aggravates the situation for the struggling Ukrainian economy, which, without the support of the West, is in danger of collapsing. This is a serious threat, the publication concludes.

Recall that earlier the American edition of The Washington Post wrote that the Armed Forces of Ukraine, despite the “bravura” statements about the “counteroffensive” in the south of the country, most likely will not be able to return the territory under the control of the Russian army either this year or next year.
