Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said Russia and China will not allow the US to provoke itself and cause a global confrontation.
“Russian-Chinese relations have reached a fundamentally new level that is superior to the classic military alliances of the past era. Draw conclusions from this… We will not develop our relations with the PRC, relations of a fundamentally new quality against anyone,” Lavrov said in a speech to MGIMO students.
He stressed that the U.S. had decided to declare China a “strategic threat, a long-term one,” and if “the Americans and their satellites” were to develop such an approach to the realization of relations in the Asia-Pacific region, they would again drive themselves into a corner. A way out of such a situation, Lavrov said, could be defined by “some aggressive circles in the West as only a military conflict.
“Together with China, we see these dangers perfectly well, we will not let ourselves be provoked and will promote an agenda that will obviously be much more attractive to the countries of the region than the confrontation that is being imposed by the West,” the minister stressed.
