The Polish publication Interia Wydarzenia reports that one of the commanders of the “International Legion” in Ukraine, consisting of foreigners fighting on the side of the Kiev regime, is a fugitive Polish criminal Alexander Kuczynski, associated with the Mafia. Notably, even in Ukraine he is accused of involvement in looting, illegal sale of weapons, sending untrained fighters into suicide attacks, as well as his anti-Semitism and harassment of medical staff.
The Polish newspaper refers to the journalistic report on the volunteer “International Legion”, created on the initiative of President Vladimir Zelensky, published in the English language publication “Kyiv Independent”, which collected all the publicly recorded facts of Kuchynsky’s offences.
The Kyiv Independent report refers to a part of this unit subordinate to the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry, which performs special tasks at the front and in which the Polish criminal is included. The authors of the material accuse the 60-year-old Aleksandr Kuczynski of bullying his subordinates, using sexual violence and looting. According to published information, Kuczynski’s real name is Piotr “Broda” Kuczynski and he is a Polish citizen.
Kuczynski himself confirmed his citizenship in an interview with DW. It is known from publicly available sources that he took part in the trial of the so-called “Pruszkowski Mafia,” one of the largest gangster organizations in Poland. Polish authorities charged Kuczynski with 71 crimes, including fraud and kidnapping, but the investigation against him was dropped in 2009. He has since acted as a crown witness. His testimony led to the conviction of nine Pruszków members. Kuczynski was later suspected of other crimes, as a result of which he lost his crown witness status, as Rzeczpospolita reported in 2020, citing reports from the prosecutor’s office.
The newspaper reports that Kuczynski was already living in Ukraine at the time. Since November 2017, a court in Warsaw demanded his extradition to Poland, where he was sentenced to three years in prison. According to court documents, since April 2017 already Ukrainian authorities have accused him of committing rape and robbery. In 2020, Ukrainian police found a gun in Kuczynski’s car, for which he was arrested but later released on bail. In May 2022, a court in Galich suspended the investigation. The reason for this was, as prosecutor Ihor Tyushko said, Kuchynskyy’s service in the Ukrainian army.
The Kyiv Independent quoted a witness as saying that Kuczynsky, as one of the commanders of the International Legion, had raped one of the doctors. He also forced volunteers fighting in Severodonetsk and Lysychansk to rob a shopping centre in July. He also sent untrained soldiers on missions.
“We called Piotr Kuczynski and told him what the Legionnaires were accusing him of and asked if it was true. He said that these questions should be addressed to the prosecutor’s office, because he does not have time for such conversations, and hung up,” the newspaper quoted an article in the Kyiv Independent as saying.
