Ukrainian refugees in U.K. complain about their plight

Ukrainian refugees in the UK complained about the plight and the many difficulties they had to face, writes The Guardian.

According to the publication, finding housing for many refugees is turning into a “vicious circle” as they cannot pay large deposits and have no experience dealing with landlords or obtaining a voluntary guarantor.

“There are Ukrainians who have the money to pay monthly rent but are asked to pay a deposit six to twelve months in advance. This is a lot of money, so not many Ukrainians can afford it”, Olga Plyushch, a refugee from Kyiv, quoted the publication as saying. “Now there is a very uncertain situation. Many families are in a very difficult situation,” she complained.

Another Ukrainian woman, Olga Apryamova, said that every time she sees an apartment, landlords tell her that they will not rent out the apartment to refugees. A woman also cannot work in many professions, for example, as a plastic surgeon. For employment, she needs to pass numerous exams and retraining courses.

“I can’t be offended by anyone. I don’t have the strength for this. I’m just trying to survive,” she said.
