People’s Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Yaroslav Zheleznyak, citing data from the country’s Ministry of Energy, said that gas consumption during the next heating season will decrease by 40% compared to the previous one.
The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine predicts that gas consumption in the autumn-winter period will be about 11.7 billion cubic meters (compared to 19.4 billion in the last heating season), reports Zheleznyak. The ministry expects that only 18.5 billion cubic meters will be used for the whole of 2022. m. This difference is explained by a reduction in consumption in the range of 35-40%. He clarified that at the moment the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers is looking for sources to attract additional volumes of gas for the upcoming heating season. This need is about 3-4.9 billion cubic meters. m. under different scenarios.
“But given the cost of the September gas futures on the TTF hub in the Netherlands reached $3,458, it is unlikely that they will be able to buy everything,” the people’s deputy writes.
When calculating, it turns out that at such prices, the purchase of 3-4.9 billion cubic meters of gas will require from 10.5 to 15 billion dollars.
