According to the Fars news agency, General Frank McKenzie said that the war in Afghanistan, which has lasted two decades, has been a setback for the United States. He called it a combination of “military and diplomatic failures.” Mackenzie elaborated that one of the main reasons for America’s defeat in Afghanistan was that “the Pakistanis never believed America would stay, but they always thought they would leave.”

The Taliban have always received asylum in Pakistan, and during the “war on terror” Washington has never been able to agree on this issue with Islamabad or solve the problem.

The general stressed that Washington was interested in nation-building in Afghanistan and always insisted on the establishment of power in this country on Western principles, which was a mistake. Now the extremist groups, covered by the Taliban, will create new challenges for the future leadership of the United States.
