Media: Ukrainian citizens’ confidence in Zelensky is falling fast

German newspaper Handelsblatt has predicted a serious political crisis for the Ukrainian president and his team

The internal cohesion in the ranks of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s supporters has been shaken, and by winter, with the onset of cold weather, this may become even more pronounced, Handelsblatt reports.

Journalist Matthias Bruggmann points out that since 2019, when Zelensky “with the youthful ease of a television entertainer” took office as president, he has changed a lot: he has grown a beard, started wearing only green T-shirts – “the comedian has become a warlord”. But it is not only his appearance that has changed. The Ukrainian president’s team and its sentiments have also changed.

“Until now, the 44-year-old Ukrainian leader was free to communicate and act with his team, partly composed of associates of his television production company. But now those times seem to have passed,” the author writes.

Bruggmann believes that Zelenskyy and his administration head, Andriy Yermak, used to try to understand the details of the state processes and constantly interfere in the affairs in the country. After the start of the conflict, the president of the “non-aligned” country concentrated on military and diplomatic tasks, handing over economic tasks to the government.

The author points out that a severe heating season awaits Ukraine with the onset of winter. And the head of the government, Denys Shmygal, will be responsible for all the difficulties during this period, “thus taking Zelensky out of the picture”.

According to Bruggmann, among the population and the government, Zelensky’s trust and support are dwindling. His promises and threats are increasingly proving false.
