US energy ministry reports record drop in oil reserves

The US Department of Energy has said the country’s oil reserves have fallen to a record 453.1 million barrels since 1985.

Strategic oil reserves in the US fell by 8.1 million barrels between 13 and 19 August, bringing the mark closer to a record 453.1 million barrels. This is according to the US Department of Energy.

Business Insider reports that during this period, oil inventories in the United States reached their lowest since January 1985. The newspaper specifies that since the beginning of 2022 the volume has dropped by more than 160 million barrels, as the US began to actively use oil from reserves to curb high domestic gasoline prices. Moreover, the measure is also aimed at curbing the highest inflation rate in decades.

In view of this, many experts are of the opinion that Joe Biden’s recent “oil” visit to the Middle East is a complete failure. Not only are the Gulf monarchies not helping the US, they are actively preventing it from lowering oil prices.
